The 3-Day has come and gone, believe it or not the 3 days flew by. Here's my recap before I forget anything!
Walkers reported to Stone Mountain for opening ceremonies between 6 and 7am on Friday, it was very cold but not quite as bad as last year.
Allison got to do it this year, yay! Last year Sheena and I kept saying how it just wasn't the same without her there with us.
The Harlem Boob Trotter team minus Emily, Sheena and Allison's good friend from UGA, who was in the bathroom when this was taken. The 3 new members here are Sheena's mother-in-law and breast cancer survivor and her aunt and pregnant sister-in-law Amy, we called her baby Lil Trot!
The crowd during opening ceremonies at 7:30
Stone Mountain was very pretty
At our first pit stop, had slightly warmed up
Hi!
Dog spotting's along the route is one of my fav parts of the 3-Day :-)
Somewhere in Decatur later that afternoon, I asked a fellow walker to snap a quick pic of us as we were getting ready to cross the street
The Day 1 schedule, we got a new schedule everyday so you knew when to be at all the stops and to tell supporters to come out at those times
A Boob Trotter tradition! Stopped at The Porter Beer Bar in Little 5 Points where we stopped last year on the first day to get pumpkin beer, so glad to have Emily and Allison join in our rebellion this year :-)
Then we had some drama... (Trotter drama!) So after drinks we started walking the same route as last year (since all day it had been the exact same), unfortunately there were no other walkers or signs in sight. We weren't too concerned since the route wasn't supposed to close for another hour and we just had a mile or so to go, it was about 5:30 and the route closed at 6:45. Last year we were some of the last walkers and had to sprint to make the shuttle back to camp (running is not allowed on the 3-Day and you will get sternly reprimanded). Well we walked and walked and finally decided that we should probably Google map how to get to where we were trying to go, then we adjusted our route accordingly and started booking it there (It was a little scary at this point). We finally started seeing some 3-Day arrow signs and got really excited, but then one of the vans came up to us, called "sweep vans" that shuttles walkers who are unable to walk anymore to the next stop, and they made us get in the van because apparently we were behind the caboose, haha. The route closed earlier than they said it would because of people finishing before the end time.
Some of us were sad to be on the sweep van -
While some of us were not so sad about it, as you can see I had mixed emotions -
Because our team had 7 people this year I tented with my friend Alison who was on Crew, our tent she had decorated -
And it won best tent decorations! "Making Breast Cancer Extinct!"
Aaannnd she dressed up as a dinosaur -
Camp at the Georgia World Congress Center
Day #2! Route opened at 7:45am
Trotters up and ready to go!
Ran into our friend and former coworker Molly out running around her neighborhood (sad she didn't have Scout with her!) -
I got a giant blister on my little toe that I had popped at the medic tent at lunchtime, why I'm smiling kind of scary
But Austin visiting made it all better, he had just been groomed!
In his fancy hat that he kept shaking off
Mark and Ben visited, too!
All the Trots!
I love Austin's face in this one, he looks disgusted by something -
Walking though Buckhead that afternoon
We were rebellious Trots again that night and went to Taco Mac for dinner, but back in time for lights out at 9:15pm.
Day #3!
A precious bulldog spotting in Piedmont Park Sunday morning
And a cavalier in the Virginia Highlands of course regally sitting in her owner's lap, this was one of the best cheer stations not just because of the cavalier but because of the food and candy people handed out, I had a pink chocolate chip cookie that was delish!
Allison said so many great quotes throughout the weekend like, "My fingers look like bratwurst sausages!" what happens when you walk for so long with your hands dangling at your sides. It's really pretty. Another one, "From the waist up I'm ready to party! But not from the waist down" Back at camp one night they had a scheduled dance party and Allison said she would only go if she could sit in a chair, and I said we should plop her down right in the middle of the dance floor in a chair and she'll just pump her arms and legs to the music, haha.
Lots of kids out cheering us on
Our friend Sarah whose cheer leading squad she coaches was out cheering around Emory
At one of the many pit stops
We walked right by former Trotter Alexis's new house! Other former Trot Louisa wasn't able to make it out because her boyfriend got a kidney stone, ick :-(
On the homestretch, almost to Turner Field
Made it!
Crossing the finish line!
In what they call the "holding area" like we're cattle, waiting to walk into closing ceremonies
1,500 walkers and over 4 million dollars raised!
Never give up!
Of course the Trotter's mascot was there!
En route back to our cars at Stone Mountain, Austin why is your mom dressed like a hooker? ;-)
Now it's back to reality, all of us had lots of work demands this week but definitely nice to be back in my own bed and not have to wait in line to shower in a trailer! I got a much needed pedi at lunch yesterday and did a yoga class last night. An instructor comes to my office Monday evenings and last night it was just me and one other girl so she tailored the class to be restorative with lots of stretching and breathing, just what I needed. Then I went home and ate a chicken burrito, chips and salsa and candy corn and watched reality TV.
Another successful 3-Day for the Trotters! So proud of my team :-) Thank you again for all of your support!
