Last year I worked in Lexington, KY as a housing counselor at the Lexington Rescue Mission through the Americorps program. It was such an amazing experience and truly altered my outlook on homeless and housing issues. One of the requirements during my service year was to plan a project that benefited my community. My project was the Lexington Rescue Mission's first annual Walk for Warmth. The 2nd annual walk is just around the corner - Feb. 28 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. The walk is purposefully held in winter and the route is through some of the poorer areas in Lexington. Walkers are encouraged to raise $50.00 each in sponsorships. Whether or not you live in Lexington, this is a great cause and I can vouch that your money will be directly used to keep families from being evicted or from having their electricity, gas, or water shut off. Oh and you get a cute t-shirt and breakfast!Thursday, February 12
